1. Miscellaneous

In the following we would like to point out our specifications for the transfer of digital data, which is based on the guideline “Medienstandard Druck 2007” of the federal printing and media association “Bundesverband Druck und Medien e.V.”

2. Reproduction

2.1 Data Formats
Our preferred data format follows the PDF/X-1a-standard. According to this all data files should be delivered as PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4.0 compatible), unseparated and exclusively in CMYK single pages. Please do not embed ICC profiles, since pictures and other elements could be transformed in the output color space.

Should you plan to deliver your data as PDF/X3 standard, please contact us beforehand in order to assure a problem-free production process.
If possible, all PDF-files should be generated with Adobe Acrobat Distiller. Setting files are available from us upon request.
All other data formats and open files can only be used after consultation with Sattler Media Press GmbH.

2.2 Formats
- The trim box (net format) must be defined
- Trimming marks are to be indicated
- An addition of at least 3 millimeters (>64 pages: 5 millimeters) to the trimming is to be considered
- Formats and standards have to be the same for all pages
- All elements should be within sufficient distance to the trimming

2.3 File Names
All PDF files must have unique names, making the page allocation clearly identifiable. The file name cannot contain any blank or special characters except for underlines (“_”).
E.g. page_job_calenderweek.pdf (023_ jobname_cw02.pdf)

2.4 Delivery of corrected files
In case of a subsequent delivery of corrected pages and files, all page numbers and file names have to be communicated to Sattler Media Press via telephone, fax or email beforehand. The files must have unique names (e.g. 23_jobname_cw02_NEW.pdf)

2.5 Page setup for imprints
All changing texts and elements must be colored in black. Chromatic or negative elements cannot alternate.

Delivered data should be in accordance to following specifications:
- Basis: unseparated PDF, without the alternating elements, one page per file.
- Alternation: consisting only of alternating text and elements (black), one page per file, background has to be transparent.
Status and net format has to be exactly the same for all pages.

2.6 Test Data
Should you want to transfer data to us for the first time, we kindly ask you to send us a test data file which corresponds to the job data ahead of time. We will check this data for any problems to occur while processing.

2.7 Back Margin Compensation
A back margin compensation does not have to be considered, since SMP will carry out the compensation depending on the number of pages and the grammage.

2.8 Decorational Colors
All decorational colors should be transferred to CMYK in the PDF generating process

2.9 Surface Coverage
The max CMYK tonality curve should not exceed the following values:
- 300 % for offset on coated paper and LWC
- 280 % for offset on SC and newspaper

2.10 Font Types
All font types must be embedded. Please avoid any words or letters beyond the trimming.

2.11 Pictures
Picture files should be transferred into CMYK according to the corresponding ISO-profile, since other profiles (e.g. SWOP) can lead to a change of colors in the printing process. We recommend JPEG formats with maximum quality for compressed files.
The required resolution for half tone pictures is 300 dpi, for 1-bit pictures (b/w) 1200 dpi. OPI commentaries are not permitted.

2.12 Omitting / Overprinting
All PDF settings for omitting and overprinting will be completely considered and normally not be changed by us.
Upon request we can enforce an overprinting for 100% black elements. In this case please contact the official person in charge for your job order.

2.13 Trapping
As a rule all PDF files will be processed with the help of In-RIP-Trapping. Should you provide your data with trapping on your own, please make sure that the trapped key is set right in the PDF data.

2.14 Final Inspection
All data and printing documents must be checked for completeness, objectivity and technical correctness by the author (referring to the original delivered PDF file).

3. Color Patterns

All patterns correspond to the delivered data. If this shouldn’t be the case the deviations / corrections should be noted on the printout.
All delivered proofs have to be technically evaluable.
The FOGRA media wedge CMYK, version V2.0a is the preferred method file, differently generated printouts will not be regarded as color-proof.
Digital proofs or soft proofs are to be generated based on the FOGRA standards (ISO 12647-7) from the delivered PDF data. Please make sure to record the creation date and time, the ICC profile and the proofing system.

We work with following profile allocations according to the FOGRA standards:

Substrate Profile Characterization data Paper type
Coated (glossy or matte) ISOcoated_v2_300eci.icc Fogra39L 1,2
LWC Improved PSO_LWC_Improved_eci.icc Fogra45L 3
LWC Standard PSO_LWC_Improved_eci.icc Fogra46L 3
SC paper SC_paper_eci.icc Fogra40L SC
Newspaper PSO_SNP_paper_eci.icc Fogra42L SNP

ICC profiles can be downloaded on following Website: http://www.eci.org

4. Transfer of data / data carriers

4.1 FTP (preferred)
For access to our FTP server please contact the official person in charge for your job order. Access codes will be sent by email.

4.2 CD/DVD
Forwarded data carriers should contain information about the author, the file system and the contents in form of an index according to following specification:
- Only PDF data: all files in the main directory
- Open data should be partitioned: files for documents, files for pictures and files for texts.

We accept CD-ROM and CD/RW containing up to 700 MB as well as DVD-ROM and DVD-RW containing up to 4,7 GB. If you wish to send us any other type of data carrier, please contact us ahead of time.

4.3 Data Archiving
A storage of customer data and data carriers is not intended by Sattler Media Press GmbH.
Unless otherwise agreed, all customer data will be stored for four weeks and deleted after that time.
